At ETC we offer specific services to people who are in disadvantaged situations and therefore find it more difficult to enter the labour market.
We offer these services through the Supported Employment Unit. People in disadvantaged situations include former substance abusers, former prison inmates, persons with disability, be it intellectual or physical, persons suffering from mental illnesses, workers who have been out of the labour market for more than five years, and other people with different social problems. Our professional advisors give assistance and job search guidance to these people. It is up to the individual to seek this particular service, and like in all other circumstances, we treat personal information with strict confidentiality.
All clients listed on the ETC register of disabled persons undergo an assessment from an occupational therapist so as to help in identifying the person’s abilities. This strengthens the employment advisor’s efforts in matching the client with the available vacancies. Ad hoc training courses are organised to various people with different disability. These courses are ‘tailor made’ to accommodate the particular needs of our clients. Furthermore, intellectually disabled clients and those suffering from mental illnesses can also benefit from specialised training through cooperative agreements the ETC has with both the Inspire and Richmond Foundations. Learning support assistance and specialised transport is made available to clients as needed during the training.
Through a cooperation agreement that the ETC has with Caritas (Malta), former substance abusers can participate in a specialised programme which offers both training and work exposure opportunities.
All the services that we offer, including work exposure schemes and mainstream training programmes, are available to these people, however we have a particular scheme which is designed specifically for these clients. Through the Bridging the Gap Scheme we offer job coaching to persons with disability who need such assistance during their work exposure. More information on the Bridging the Gap Scheme is found in the ‘Work Exposure Schemes’ page of this section in the website.
